In Tallinn the Pouchkine couple handed awards to the teachers in Russian
language.

On March 9th 2012, Marie Madeleine and Alexander Pouchkine, respectively president and vice-president of the International Pouchkine Foundation, went to Tallinn and took part to the ceremony of Pouchkine awards to the teachers in Russian language. The event took place at the Estonian theater of Tallinn.
To begin with, the International Pouchkine Foundation was created with the aim of popularizing in the European Union the poetic master-piece of the great Russian poet in the one hand and interceding in Russian charity purposes on the other hand.
Back to the ceremony awards, this action was initiated in 2008 by the Pouchkine Institute and the “Russian World” Foundation in order to morally and financially support the above mentioned teachers in Estonia.
At that time, Alla Belenkova managing the A.S. Pouchkine museum of the Russian secondary school of Tallinn, had met in Brussels Alexander Pouchkine, the last direct descendant of the Russian poet as well as his wife, great great granddaughter of same. She asked the couple if they would accept to parti-cipate to the ceremony. Both were more than happy to support the teaching of the Russian language in the European Union and therefore accepted at once.
Since then each year in March, the Pouchkine fly to Estonia and actively parti-cipate to the ceremony awards. The prizes worth 1000 € could not be awarded
without the participation of the sponsors.
Within the frame of its possibilities, the Pouchkine Foundation is always ready to sustain actions aiming to the promotion of the Russian language and a better apprehension of the so rich Russian literature.
Two years ago the International Pouchkine Foundation gave birth to the “Young Pouchkine” award granted to Russian and Estonian students.
Thanks to its activity, theaters in Belgium are now beginning to include Russian plays and A.S. Pouchkine plays in their repertoire.
In the year 2005 the Pouchkine descendants were extremely moved by President Poutine’s decision to grant them the Russian citizenship. At that occasion Alexander said : “We were born and raised abroad but in our soul we always remained Russians”.
